Activity (back to New England Xpo 2009 schedule)

Managing PR in a Crisis

While most businesses have an emergency plan for their staff and office systems in the event of natural disasters, many have not developed a basic communications plan on how to respond to a public crisis such as a lawsuit, improper behavior by employees online and offline, product recalls, and other crises that make the news.

With the 24/7 news cycle on the air, in print and online, news – particularly bad news – moves faster than ever and can quickly harm your reputation if not handled effectively.
There are techniques to successfully manage a public relations crisis.  Being prepared ahead of time is the first step.  In this session, you will leave understanding:
  • How to prepare for a crisis
  • Key tools and techniques to manage a crisis
  • Rules of media engagement during a crisis
  • How and when to respond to negative exposure
  • Leveraging new media for damage control
